Name: NFU Mutual
Location: Central Scotland
Requirements:
Stellar Insurance Reinstatement Services were instructed by the loss adjuster on behalf of NFU Mutual in order to initially undertake a make safe of the fire damaged outbuilding to prepare for the farm outbuilding roof repair. This project involved erecting a top hat scaffold and installing a new temporary metre to reconnect the mains and restore power to the main dwelling. All tasks were completed within 48 hours, and the insured returned to their main residence within days.
Both the client and the insured were so impressed with the service provided that we were also awarded the reinstatement contract.
This roof repair project had its own particular issues, as all do. The full roof was the building’s original hand cut roof and the insured’s father, who sadly passed away, had actually built the farm outbuilding in question so it also held sentimental value.
Solution:
Stellar Insurance Reinstatement Services provided assurance to the insured that the roof repair and restoration would faithfully recreate the original structure. The updated roof design was put forward for approval in a meeting with the insured before the repairs commenced. The insured very much appreciated this consideration and was delighted with the proposed design. Our detailed approach, listing every structural member pre-loss, ensured an exact match.
Outcome:
Once the roof repair was completed a full internal refurbishment was undertaken, including new hardwood windows and doors, plasterboard installation and finishes, followed by decoration to the existing external render which returned the property to a pre-loss condition. The insured also provided feedback that it was even better than before.
Roof Design
The original roof makeup comprised 28 common rafters, 52 Jack rafters, 16 collars, and 58 joist hangers for outriggers. Additionally, 92m² of 19mm sarking boards and 92 natural slate roof coverings were used. We also accounted for the installation of 2 number 245mm x 45mm steel I beams to accommodate the span.
